Of soft green-glazed faience, a color the ancient Egyptians particularly associated with magical representations of new life, rejuvenation, and rebirth. Here, the scarab is pierced longitudinally for suspension, with a suture of pronotum separation, the "hooks" on the side identifying as from Amarna, the base incised with a short hieroglyphic text wishing the wearer, joy, and happiness. Custom mounted in an antique 14K gold ring.
Condition: Intact and in very condition overall.
Dimensions: US ring size 6.5. Can be resized.
Provenance: Private Boston collection acquired in the 1950s, thereafter private Virginia collection since 2009.
